MoveOn Links McCain to Bush (Again) in New Ad
Susan Davis reports on the presidential race.
Liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org will begin airing a new ad nationwide and in Arizona starting Tuesday that links expected Republican nominee John McCain to President Bush.
The ad aims for the funny bone, showing goofy images of McCain and Bush set to the lyrics of the “Patty Duke Show.” (Still they’re cousins/ Identical cousins and you’ll find/ They laugh alike, they walk alike/ At times they even talk alike.)
Broader Democratic efforts to link the Arizona senator to the unpopular president are not new—the campaign of Democratic front-runner Barack Obama criticized the “Bush-McCain” foreign policy agenda in a speech last week—and that strategy will likely intensify in the general election campaign.
MoveOn’s ad will be airing nationally on CNN and in Arizona markets to coincide with a Tuesday fundraiser featuring McCain and Bush in Phoenix. The McCain campaign, as reported in today’s Wall Street Journal, has made a concerted effort to maintain distance from the Bush administration with the president’s favorability rating at a record low. It is the first time the two men will appear together in nearly three months.
The ad is also featured on a Web site called the “Bush-McCain Challenge” modeled off the old “Pepsi-Coke Challenge” ad campaign. The site, paid for by MoveOn, asks visitors to guess whether McCain or Bush has made certain statements about the Iraq War, abortion, guns, among others. According to MoveOn, half a million people have taken the on-line challenge.
UPDATE: “Today, John McCain released a serious ad outlining his vision for the future of the nation. Contrast that to Barack Obama’s supporters, who issued a ridiculous ad that is backward looking and belittles the seriousness of this election,” said Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant in a statement. “It’s clear MoveOn.org does not want this election to be about who has the experience and judgment necessary to lead us into the future.”
When is this country going to graduate high school and begin to engage our brains over leadership selection?
As I have said before, all is fair! Lets see some Obama-Hamas-Wright-Ayers videos too!
MoveOn.org needs to wake up and realize they are really not alike at all. How about something like the Obama-Rev Wright challenge? That would be more apropriate.
So you can post a direct link to an ultra-left organization and then take down posts that note how ludicrous and unbalanced Gerald and company’s “reporting” is! RM, help! This was once the WSJ.
Predictably, Moveon.org has resorted to the same puerile, sophomoric tactics for which they are very well known.
Similar to the Petraeus/Betray Us episode last year, antics like these just confirm for responsible, serious minded voters why they vote for a George Bush or a John McCain - to ensure
the kids stay out of the pool during adult swim and don’t run with scissors!!
Keep it up Moveon!! (And don’t forget to remind us from time to time that you’re supporting Barack Obama for president!)
Perfect!
There is no need for this. The Born Again Murderer War Criminal of the Guns Owned Party is doing a fantastic job already for the Dems. Gas and Food Prices, Housing Recession, Job Losses is doing wonders.
Interesting site, http://therealmccain.com/
I didn’t know any of that……crap is still being spammed. As predicted, If McCain gets the 3 a.m. call, Bush will roll over and answer it!
So According to Matt…
Bush=Hamas
Of course their not at all alike. McCain can’t raise money, and Bush can. McCain can’t be President and Bush has. Other than that, They are identical twins.
Of course, the Big Oil War Criminal can raise Cash from all his Big Business Buds. By the way, what were those 2001 Secret Energy Task Force Talks with Big Oil all about. Why is the VP of Torture hiding behind executive privilege. Is this a democracy or a monarchy? What is so secretive that the American People are not allowed to know what they were discussing. Interestingly, oil prices have rocketed higher since 2001.
McCain will be worse than Bush. McCain never made it to college. At least Bush got straight Cs in college. McCains lack of knowledge automatically disqualifies him from president. We’ve already had two Herbert Hoovers, no need for a third.
Funny that the headline directly below this one is “McCain, Bush to appear together”!
McCain used to be more independent-minded, but he’s now a well-trained old dog.
It’s not clear why this ad gets under the skin of some folks commenting on this site. If they’re Bush supporters they should find the connection flattering to McCain. If they’re McCain supporters who don’t like Bush, they should acknowledge there’s a cost to McCain for accepting the financial resources that are lined up behind Bush. This good-natured ribbing is a small price indeed.
The radicals are dragging down the Democratic Party. They flock in droves to hear Obama mouth the most insipid banalities. He clears his throat and the entire front row faints. He reads a line of his script and they scream with pleasure. Meanwhile, he’s been ducking one-on-one debates with Hillary as it exposes him for the fraud that he is. Without prepared text he says a lot of ‘uh’ and ‘er’ and ‘hmm’, and those are probably the most intelligent comments he makes. Having pushed outside the far more qualified female candidate (on the oh so logical grounds that she’s not as likeable!) they now think her women supporters will just have to suck it up and vote for him. They’re so wrong, he’s toast.
They are certainly cousins in their lackluster speechifying. At least dems understand the unconscious mind and how to verbally rouse it.
You are all missing the point. Obama will lose in a landslide by the time the republicans finish with him. Obama has a lot of baggage nobody is aware of. Just wait until October. Why October? Simply because Americans have short memory. You will see Republicans at their best. One month bad news for Obama is in the waiting.
You will all be shocked.

To Hillary in ‘12:
You say the radicals are dragging down the Democratic Party.
What have the radicals done to the GOP in the last eight years?
Bush=McCain
Jeremiah Wright=Obama
I’ll rather stick with the first pair.

Certainkly I am not entirely happy with the Bush presidency. However, shall we link Barack Obama to Jimmy Carter? Or would that be insulting Carter, currently tied with Herbert Hoover for the title of worst president of the 20th century?
Cute ad. I like the music. Bush looks silly dancing around like that. Liked the Bush-Obama cartoon too.
Maybe it’s the length of the campaign, or maybe something else.
Between the lines on some of the posts I read here, I’m sensing a lot of us have something in common, regardless of who we support.
Since both Obama and McCain are weak candidates, I’ll bet the majority of us are more interested in seeing our opponent lose than we are thrilled about the thought of our candidate winning.
If Obama wins, I’ll be glad to be rid of the GOP for at least four years. But beyond that, I won’t be jumping for joy.
If McCain wins, I’ll just be glad it was him and not one of the other 2008 Republican presidential candidates.
Both of these guys leave a lot to be desired, regardless of who you are for (or against).
“MoveOn Links McCain to Bush In New Ad.” SHOCKING!!! I wonder what money MoveOn could have saved its investors by not running the ads?
It makes no difference really who gets elected if they cannot deal with Congress. (which has a lower approval rating than Bush) I believe we need to straighten out Congress first and then rest will fall in place. What meaningful legislation has Congress passed the last 20 years? The border is a mess. Everyone is so worried about getting re-elected that they are afraid to do the job they were elected for.
Notice how much gas prices have gone up since November 2006? How the housing and stock markets have gone in the toilet since November 2006? Yes put the Democrats in charge of Congress and that’s what happens! Remember that the stock market only started its upward ride when Gingrich ended 40 years of Democrat mismanagement in 1994. GOP in 2008!!!
The President’s Memorial Day speech is a reminder of why he has been commander in chief for the last 8 years. His speech cleaned Obama’s clock by comparison.
McCain did not go to college? - This is typical of the lack of knowledge about McCain that pervades this blog commentary. For the comment by Actually, the last I heard, the United States Naval Academy was considered a college - a rather distinguished college at that. McCain is a graduate of the Naval Academy. If the folks commenting on how McCain and Bush are alike took just a minute out to look at the history of the two, they would find that the two of them do not agree on a plethora of issues. The biggest thorn in George Bush’s side during the Bush two terms was John McCain. Folks please try to put some facts into this discussion.

I love those videos it makes McCain look “HIP” to young voters. The more young voters see McCain in these funny videos the better the changes are they will give him a second look.
McCain could never reach out the way these groups can. They are doing McCain a world of good by showing him in funny videos to “HIP” voters. In fact the even make “BUSH” look HIP
So I say Keep it up, way to go

http://therealmccain.com/, Interesting website.
The Born Again War Criminal is doing such a fantastic job with the economy and the illegal wars, Obama doesn’t need Moveon or do very much work to win in a landslide.
“Folks please try to put some facts into this discussion.”
We are Republicans! We have no need for such things.
The false left/right paradigm is and has been successful. While we argue, the elected servants and would be presidents of the two-sided one party system are dividing the people and they are passing laws that strip us of our constitutional rights. Wake up America for you are arguing whether you want socialism or fascism when in reality, the elite politicians along with corporate America are creating a socialistic fascist country. This will have all of us enslaved by dependence on the system while under tight control of the system. Neither Juan McWar, Hitlery, nor Obomination will effect change until we get back to a constitutional government complete with all of our bill of rights, including the right to bear arms and freedom of speech. Vote Chuck Baldwin, US Constitution Party (Independent party)
Pretty catchy video ad. What’s all the fuss, Bush said he would not leave Iraq without victory and McCain says the same thing. Bush wanted amnesty and McCain along with Kennedy proposed the same thing. Bush wants to bomb Iran and so does McWar, but fear not, so does Hitlery and Obomination. This imperialistic bravado Amerika has now taken, goes against the Constitution, the very fiber of this country, and the wise words of our founders who had the foresight to say stay out of the affairs of other nations. If you’ve narrowed this race down to McCain, Clinton, and Obama it equals “no one above in 2008″
Wait until the swiftboat ads come out against McCain!
