Clintons Saddle Up
Nick Timiraos reports on the presidential race.
The Clintons have a message for the talking heads who contend that a protracted, and increasingly nasty, primary fight could hurt the party’s chances in the fall: take a hike.
“Let’s just saddle up and have an argument,” former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday while campaigning in West Virginia. “What’s the matter with that?”

The political chattering class has argued in recent days that Sen. Hillary Clinton, who trails Sen. Barack Obama in pledged delegates, should consider dropping out of the race if she doesn’t soon demonstrate how she can win the nomination without a lengthy summer battle to win superdelegates. Obama has a 1,621-1,499 lead in overall delegates, according to the Associated Press, and 2,025 are needed to win the nomination.
“When Hillary’s gaining on him, they say, ‘Oh, let’s shut this down, let’s not be divided,’” the former president said. “Don’t you think your vote ought to count as much as the votes of people in Iowa?”
At a fund-raiser in Washington on Wednesday night, the senator made the same argument. “This has been a spirited contest, and you know what, it should be,” she said. “It would be a disservice to the voters for both Sen. Obama and I not to take seriously the stakes in this election.”
A new Gallup poll shows that more than one quarter of Clinton supporters say they would pick Republican John McCain over Obama if he won the Democratic nomination, compared to slightly less than one-fifth of Obama supporters who would back McCain over Clinton.
Clinton spoke at the Daughters of American Revolution Constitution Hall, blocks away from the White House, where she said that standing on the hall’s stage reminded her of a lifetime of change that has resulted in “an unprecedented moment in history” where a major political party is about to nominate the first woman or black candidate for president “only because of the sacrifice and commitment of so many others in the civil rights movement, the women’s rights movement and American history.”
The result of those two big firsts meant that “for the first time in so long,” the election means more to more Americans. “People are intensely involved, passionately committed,” she said.
Clinton was introduced by her daughter, Chelsea, after the Dunbar High School marching band paraded through the auditorium to warm up the crowd.
Yes, the stakes are indeed high for this country and its tax-payers - especially when Clinton is calling for the government to start buying up troubled mortgages.
The scorched earth approach by the Clintons reminds me of The Matrix movie. The humans, in an effort to kill off the machines, blackened the sky to block out the sun. It didn’t kill off the machines, and put everyone into darkness…
First off, “arguments” should have been hashed out between the two candidates by Super Tuesday. And what’s happening now is far from simple policy differences. This is turning into an ugly slime-fest on both sides. Not helpful, Bill.
The same people rooting for Huckabee to stay in all the way to the Convention now want Hillary to bow out “for the sake of the party.”
to Get Real, It’s a Race –
exactly! The Republicans put all their eggs in one basket and if McCain for some reason isn’t able to accept the nomination how will they decide WHO will be the candidate?
.
ALL the voters have not weighed in as to whom they want to be their Democratic candidate and it’s lunacy for anyone to insist that a candidate withdraw before all the votes are tallied.
why not just GIVE it to the Republicans??
I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL. ITS SAD ON HOW AMERICA WOULD RATHER HAVE A MAN THEN A WOMAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. HILARY KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT SHE IS DOING IF SHE IS ELECTED TO REP THE DEMOCRAT PARTY SHE WAS ONCE A FIRST LADY AND SHE HAS DONE NOTHING BUT COMMIT HERSELF TO THE USA. AND TO PUT ANOTHER REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE AMERICA MUST BE INSANE I MEAN LOOK WHATS HAPPENING TO US NOW..DO PEOPLE HONESTLY WANT THIS CRAP TO CONTINUE??
Just go home, go away, America is so sick of the two of you, Democrats are especially tired of you that is why Hillary cant even win her own party nomination, people want a fresh face and new direction
The results from the Florida primary should stand. It was fair. None of the candidates campaigned in the state. Further, the names of all the key candidates were on the ballots.
=
The result of the Michigan primary should also stand. However, if Barack Hussein Obama motivates his African-American supporters to holler and scream at the Michigan party leaders (just as his supporters holler and scream during the caucuses to pressure non-African-Americans to vote for Obama), then the primary should be re-done. The ballot would have two names: Hillary Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama.
=
If the primary in Michigan is re-done, then we should mobilize the non-African-American voters to support Hillary Clinton.
=
Barack Hussein Obama has strongly advocated expressing racial pride and voting along racial lines. More than 85% of African-American voters in the primaries across the country have supported Obama.
=
We should actively encourage non-African-American voters to support Clinton. Racial pride is wonderful. Obama and his supporters think so.
Bill Clinton, in 1992, was a beacon of hope. Hillary does not cast the same glow. This time the tide is turning in another direction……
http://thefiresidepost.com/2008/03/27/this-time-the-tide-is-turning/
50% negative in the general, she is not electable, cant even win her own party
The rationale for asking Clinton to bow out now is the math: Currently she has about a 10% chance of winning the nomination. The assertion is that such small odds aren’t worth the cost of continuing (that cost being money as well as the continued fighting that is tearing the Dems apart).
Yet. the press prints story after story. I think the Democrats are laughing all the way to the bank. They benefit from the drama….
Future, you are so right! The Republicans will be in one huge mess, if for some reason or other, McCain cannot go on to fight for the General Election!!!
The problem is not Hillary staying in the race the problem is she feels the need to tear her fellow dem down instead of building herself up. Barack has run a respectable campaign why can’t hillary?(she was before then she changed tactics). When Huckabee continued his fight he didnt get nasty and shrill go on the attack like Clinton he continued to run a respectable campaign but the clintons want to win no matter the cost.
Hillary simply cannot tell the truth. Here’s her scorecard:
Admitted Lies
Chelsea was jogging around the Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. (She was in bed watching it on TV.)
Hillary was named after Sir Edmund Hillary. (She admitted she was wrong. He climbed Mt. Everest five years after her birth.)
She was under sniper fire in Bosnia. (A girl presented her with flowers at the foot of the ramp.)
She learned in The Wall Street Journal how to make a killing in the futures market. (It didn’t cover the market back then.)
Whoppers She Won’t Admit
She didn’t know about the FALN pardons.
She didn’t know that her brothers were being paid to get pardons that Clinton granted.
Taking the White House gifts was a clerical error.
She didn’t know that her staff would fire the travel office staff after she told them to do so.
She didn’t know that the Peter Paul fundraiser in Hollywood in 2000 cost $700,000 more than she reported it had.
She opposed NAFTA at the time.
She was instrumental in the Irish peace process.
She urged Bill to intervene in Rwanda.
She played a role in the ’90s economic recovery.
The billing records showed up on their own.
She thought Bill was innocent when the Monica scandal broke.
She was always a Yankees fan.
She had nothing to do with the New Square Hasidic pardons (after they voted for her 1,400-12 and she attended a meeting at the White House about the pardons).
She negotiated for the release of refugees in Macedonia (who were released the day before she got there).
Saddle up and keep it going. It has been working so well up to this point that HC’s approval ratings are approaching W’s. That is a tough task and a great goal to strive for.
It’s quite obvious that neither Hillary nor Obama will have the votes (2025) needed to win the nomination by the end of the race, especially, in light of the fact that the re-do’s in MI and FL didn’t materialize. So, the election will have to be decided by super-delegates. Now, the question is, how the super-delegates should vote. Either they can vote based on the pattern set by the pledged delegates or they can vote based on the criterion of electability in the general election. In the former way, the super-delegates will be derelict of their duties, for the super-delegate system was set up to prevent a weak nominee from entering the general election—-weak nominees like McGovern and Carter. Thus, it is quite obvious to me that the super-delegates should vote for a candidate who will most likely defeat McCain in the general election. Based on the recent wins and her experience, knowledge, maturity and judgment, Hillary is more likely to defeat McCain than is Obama. It’s, therefore, pointless to end the primary election now and let Obama prematurely win the nomination, for we may be saddled with the feelings of guilt for the rest of our lives if Obama loses to McCain in the general election. Obama, with his lack of experience and the Rev. Wright baggage is very vulnerable at the moment.
“He would not have been my pastor,” Clinton said. “You don’t choose your family, but you choose what church you want to attend.”
FYI, you also “choose” to stay with a husband who is a serial adulterer, a liar and cheater who gets indicted, disbarred and impeached while PRESIDENT of the United States. Tell me again why this makes her judgement so much more admirable?
Face it: the Democratic party seems hopelessly split — what can it do to get a Democrat into the White House? Opposing candidates Clinton and Obama and their supporters are as frustrated with each other as each can be. What’s the solution? There are three real options. (1) Clinton can quit. (2) Obama can quit. (3) Joint ticket. I think the only real option is that Obama must quit and pour his support behind Clinton. Clinton quitting wouldn’t work for a number of reasons. First, her supporters would NOT support Obama. Second, she could not persuade her supporters to vote for Obama. Third, since her voters are mostly drawn to her relatively centrist views, Obama is too far left and McCain is the more attractive option. So Clinton quitting doesn’t work. Joint ticket sounds nice because it sounds like what our mothers and fathers told us — “share.” But it isn’t that simple. First, it is not possible. Only Clinton has expressed any willingness to explore such an option — and Obama could not credibly change course. The whole world knows the Clinton/Obama divide is deep and unsolvable. No one would be fooled by a joint ticket. Everyone would lose faith in Democrats who would stoop so low as to try to pull such wool over everyone’s eyes. America’s concern is for the BEST candidate, not the one that the Democrats happen to prefer. Moreover, there are several other compelling reasons why the only winning choice for Democrats is for Obama to quit and instruct his followers to support Hillary Clinton. First, Obama devotees are mesmerized, and Obama can convince them to suport Clinton. The idea isn’t a stretch — he’s said she’s great on rare candid occasions, and that is why few Obama followers go so far as to threaten they would not vote for Hillary Clinton if she were the nominee. Moreover, Obama’s hold over his followers would win them over. I have no doubt if he poured his oratory prowess into convincing his followers that we must unite and support Hillary Clinton, most if not all will do it. Will some be angry? Sure. Will some refuse? Sure. But that tiny remnant aberrant “Obamidiot” slice will also probably sooner gnaw off their own arm than vote for McCain out of protest. Not that it would matter — the uniting of the rest of his followers with Clinton supporters would far outweigh any such fringe protest vote impact. Largely, Obama’s followers will believe what he tells them to believe. Kind of like Moqtada al-Sadr’s control over his followers, “Obamania” cannot be denied. Facts be damned: if their savior says everyone else is a racist, well then, he must be right, they think. Obama’s Peoples Temple / Jim Jones-like hold over his followers has led to terms like “Kool Aid.” By contrast, Hillary Clinton’s only persuasive skill is in facts. While Obama has treated this campaign as a date — like a guy anxious to get in his date’s pants — Clinton has treated this as a job interview. Her supporters will be swayed by logic and facts, not faintfest be-in speeches serving Kool-Aid driven hype. In the end, they cannot buy Obama and have in fact seen him as a bad choice. This leads to one conclusion: Obama quitting and supporting Hillary Clinton is truly the Democratic party’s only hope. There is hope that Clinton’s defeat of Obama at the convention will have the same effect, but as time marches on, we will only see more of the pro-Obama/anti-Hillary Clinton press coverage and the negative campaign attacks from Obama. So the time is NOW for Obama to do the right thing. If he does, people will see him as more of a leader. Such an act will plant the seed of hope he needs to become this nation’s President sometime in the future. But he has no hope now — only empty promises and deeply offensive negative campaign attacks from a mesmerized mob of devotees in both the private sector and the media. This is Obama’s hype machine, and it has gotten him supporters — but this machine is a recipe for disaster for the Democratic party. Obama should quit and support Clinton.
It is time to elevate this election. Your derisive inflammatory rhetoric is a needless personal attack.
I recject “walrus” racist remarks. I also reject Obama’s racist “typical white person” remark, Wright outlandish remarks, and Obama’s failure to accept the race-baiting he is engaging in. We need to rise above the muck and mire of racism — so far, that muck and mire is epitomized by Obama.
about opinions this is America dont be telling people their comments are “needless” or “rhetoric” let them say their piece. your comments sound like attemped “censorship”
Not everyone can have good judgment. “walrus” and Obama both share in common racist remarks: Obama’s “typical white person” is inexcusable. Grow some skin, “Elections are,” and grow up — no one is censoring anyone. You want to make stupid remarks, go ahead. But I suggest a higher road. First think of the consequences of your words, by thinking to yourself before you write them: are the words I choose to write anonymously the words I would want to tell someone to their face? Tri it sometime. Elevate yourself — don’t censor yourself.
Obama has a lot of Nerve speaking out on Economy and Helping the Poor….there is MORE to come as some of Obama’s Taxes have been released and it Shows that in a Years Time His Salary Jumped from 247 Hundred Dollars to 1.6 Million. He hardly donated to Any Charities UNTIL he announced that he was going to run for President….THEN he got real generous…..Unfortunately for him he must have forgotten one of the Charity deductions he made was to Hate Monger Rev. Wrights favorite cause, where he gets his beliefs … THE BLACK POWER and BLACK THEOLOGY MOVEMENT GROUP !!! This is FACT it’s in his Tax Paper Work !! Wait til this breaks l loose. He will be doing ANOTHER song and dance…Millions of Americans gave Obama their vote. Are they stupid ? YES !!! They are still Sexist against a Woman in POWER, they Blame Hillary for Bill’s infidelities,…ALSO People think Bill was IMPEACHED. They had proceeding’s, but he was NOT impeached….. which this should not be a HILLARY issue…. Hillary Actually showed more strength by standing through that mess holding her head up High. Who knows what the arrangement is between Bil and Hill…….She should not be a whipping board for his human short commings . AND Finally…. All of them Lie…Both Hillary and Obama….He talks out the side of his mouth too…depending on who hes talking too….People Love a SMOOTH Talker like Obama and he tells them anything they want to HEAR, fooling Million’s of the American Public. I don’t see CHANGE, that he proclaims, I See a REPEAT…and he’s even MORE Cunning & DANGEROUS than Bush, as Obama is a CHARMER….and american’s lapping it up……at LEAST We know what Hillary’s all about, and the last Clinton Administration we had a GREAT Economy, and the Deficit was significantly reduced, and there was NO PROBLEM with Social Security…….
What if Hillary Clinton, feeling that the Democratic Party has been taken over by the far left, decides to form a new political party in her run for President? I took a look at that scenario and was surprised to see my findings. The approach used to come up with the findings is far from scientific and could not get anymore low budget, but there is some reasonable rationale to the approach.
I started out with the simple premise that three major candidates and one minor candidate will be on the ballot in November – Obama, Clinton, McCain, Nader. With Obama and Nader sharing the far left, Clinton and McCain sharing the moderates, and the conservatives voting for McCain, since they have no horse in the race, the vote would be heavily split and winning a state’s electoral vote will not require a majority.
The next premise was that strong red states will continue to go with the Republicans and John McCain. The blue states were a different matter. In those states I looked at either the primary results or the polls where primaries have not as yet been held. When looking at the blue states, only a few battle ground states appeared and they will be discussed later.
538 electoral votes are at play and the Electoral College is not based on proportional votes and there are no super electors. 270 votes are needed to win the Presidency. The analysis of the primary results, polls, and voting history provided the following:
McCain wins Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming for a total of 191 electoral votes.
Obama wins Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, D.C., Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin for a total of 131 electoral votes.
Clinton wins Arkansas, California, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania for 172 electoral votes.
Two states are very hard to figure do to the split votes and they are Florida and Michigan. After the Democratic Party primary debacle it is anyone’s guess as to how these states will go especially with four candidates on the ballot. Even so they represent 44 electoral votes, less than what any of the candidates will need to clinch. Despite some disagreement with how a state might fall, there seems to be no mix to give anyone candidate 270 electoral votes. Now what? It goes to the House of Representatives. The difference here is that the House votes by state and each state has but one vote – more infighting.
The following is an excerpt from the National Archives and records Administration web site: If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each State delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House. http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/faq.html#270
If the respective state delegations follow the way their state fell, with no candidate getting a majority, then McCain might garner 22 votes including Florida; Clinton 9 votes; and Obama 19 votes including Michigan. I believe that the decisions, within each state delegation, are not readily apparent and anything could happen. Even though Senator Clinton would have the fewest states, she could win as a long shot.
As ludicrous as this all seems, the Clintons may realize that forming a third party and continuing on, if Senator Clinton does not receive the Democratic Party’s nomination, as a candidate for President may just work.

When “Clintons Saddle UP”, as the articles title states, which one wears the saddle and which one wears the spurs?
What about the pardon of arch crimnal anf fugitive Marc Rich?
But I’d still rather do Hillary than Monica or Paula Jones.

Obama Copies Hillary’s ‘Second Stimulus’
Last Thursday, Senator Clinton called for a “second stimulus package” with $30 billion to help states and localities fight foreclosures. One week later, Senator Obama announced a “second $30 billion stimulus package”.
Clinton policy director Neera Tanden: “If Senator Obama has to copy policy ideas when he’s a candidate on the campaign trail, how is he going to solve people’s problems if he’s president? When it comes to fixing the economy, we need leadership, not followership.”
1) Hillary called for a $30 billion fund to help states and localities to fight foreclosure in their communities. [Clinton Campaign Press Release,3/20/08]
One week later, Barack Obama called for an economic stimulus package of $30 billion to provide ‘immediate relief to areas hardest hit by the housing crisis.’[Reuters, 3/27/08]
2) Hillary’s plan introduces idea of ‘second stimulus.’ “That is why Senator Clinton is calling on Congress and the President to pass a second stimulus package. This time around, the primary focus should be on addressing the growing housing crisis. And by investing new, temporary resources in a housing-focused stimulus package, we can avoid the worst fall-out from the current downturn, keep families in their homes and stabilize communities.” [Clinton Campaign Press Release, 3/20/08]
Obama’s plan uses the exact same language: ‘Enact a Second $30 Billion Stimulus Package to Address the Mortgage Crisis, Protect Vulnerable Families and Strengthen the Economy.’ [Obama Plan to restore Confidence in the Markets ,3/27/08]
3) Hillary’s plan reiterated her support for increasing unemployment insurance: “While this second stimulus package should focus predominantly on the housing crisis, Congress should also consider temporary measures to help struggling workers like extending unemployment insurance.” [Clinton Campaign Press Release ,3/20/08]
Obama’s plan includes the same call for increasing unemployment insurance: “Barack Obama believes we must extend and strengthen the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program to address the needs of the long-term unemployed, who currently make up nearly one-fifth of the unemployed and are often older workers who have lost their jobs in manufacturing or other industries and have a difficult time finding new employment.” [Obama
My guess is that Chelsea was desensitized to her father’s fooling around with bimbos by the time Monica came around.
But, if Chelsea sees to it that her personal experiences as to her parent’s infidelities during her time as “first daughter” is “nobody’s business” then she might also admit that she is “nobody” herself and why is she even on stage then ?
90% of the people contributing to these discussions are hopeless demigods – campaign staffers and sad little racists and misogynists of every stripe. The problem with this type of anonymous forum is that it gives voice to every partisan screwball who hopes to somehow spin the situation to whatever they see as their candidate’s momentary advantage – always to the detriment of a constructive conversation. I suggest that the other 10% of us stop playing the game. No need to state your preferred candidate – it just feeds the obsession of the opinion-porn crowd. If you want to have a meaningful conversation, do it with people who actually know who you are… Oh yeah, and if you really want to express your preference, you can always vote.
I think Americans are better off voting for McCain instead of any of the Democrat candidates. Barack Obama is more form than substance and Hillary Clinton has no moral compass - she’ll do whatever it takes to win even if it means breaking or changing the rules or even worse, lying.
Good idea!
P.S. A U realy girl?
