What’s Going on With Marc Dann? Here’s What We Know
Law Blog readers following the Marc Dann mess have every right to be confused about the fate of Ohio’s AG based on conflicting information that’s emerged out of that great state today. LB colleague Aaron Lucchetti did some reporting and we have this to offer. Bottom line, no resignation right now.
First, the Attorney General’s office said in a statement Tuesday that Dann hasn’t resigned and no further announcements were planned. Earlier Tuesday, Dann met with Ohio’s lieutenant governor, reportedly to discuss his future and the possibility of resignation. One person briefed by an adviser to Dann said his resignation is imminent, but another said he wants to do it on his own terms.
Local news reports indicate he is looking to minimize future investigations into his office if he agrees to resign.
Dann’s been defiant to the end. This week, before the Articles of Impeachment from Democrats were made public Tuesday (see them here at the Columbus Dispatch site), one employee at the Attorney General’s office recalls Mr. Dann saying: “I’m not going to let them push me out.” Another staffer at the AG’s office says concern is building in the office that lawyers working for Mr. Dann could defect if he stays much longer.
Right or wrong, his ability to run the office has been compromised.
And he did it to himself.
Take a page out of your model’s playbook (Gov. Spitzer) and fall on your sword. Pardon the pun, but Mr. Dann, you made your bed now sleep in it! I think by now we should all have learned that when a powerful public official basis his/her campaign on cleaning up morality and ethics, this person is more likely than not commiting unethical offenses.
This is reporting? Slater, disappear, resign, fly to Vancouver, but, whatever you do, let someone who knows what they are doing and wants to work a bit harder than 9 to 5 take the reins.
More criticisms about this interesting site by an anal retentive misfit who gets a woody criticizing someone for perceived shortcomings by the blogmaster.
9:13 pm, this is a blog, not Page One of the WSJ. Take your criticisms and yourself somewhere else, maybe to Yagon in the country formerly known as Burma.
As for Dann, why should he resign his high paying job? If everyone wants him out, let them impeach him. Whether he quits or is impeached, he will be out of a job and his reputation ruined. Not much upside to resigning. His replacement can always make indicting Dann Job One.
So Dann is playing his cards right, if they want him out, meet his price. Ohio is a swing state and the national Democratic Party leadership wants this matter ended in the worst way, well before November. Fooling around pales in comparison to ripping off the state pension fund by investing in non-existent rare coins, what the Republicans did a few tears ago, but Democrats are held to a higher standard by Republican media owners.

Some people just have to find something to whine about.
There, Faustus, we finally agree on something [smile].
Those Articles are not worth the paper they’re printed on.
Stay resolute, Mr. Dann. They can’t touch you. They got Spitzer but that doesn’t mean they will get you. Remember–Innocent until proven guilty.
As usual Americans fall into this crap. Why is it that we only call for someone to resign when they sleep with someone other than their wife? It is the only think that upsets us. Our own President can lie to us take us into a war that has had no positive results break the 4th amendment and we sit quietly. But if he was sleeping with someone other then his wife while breaking the 4th amendment then oooo hes unfit. Someone give a good reason why who the Attorney General sleeps with is anyones business and why if he had an affair that would make him “unfit” to properly do the job that he already has been doing quite well. America stand up and say no more will we be tricked by these political hacks who do not truly care if someone is doing a good job. They only care if their good job will benefit themselves. Marc Dann is a good AG and the fact that his own party has turned on him is outrageous. I am personally embarrassed to be a registered democrat when I see stupidity like this. Our politicans love lives our none of our business and none of our concern. There is no connection between being loyal to your spouse and properly performing your job. George W. Bush is as far as we know very loyal to his wife. However he has not been loyal to our country and has been arguably the worst President this country has ever had. Our country is a bunch of prudes who believe there is nothing worse than having an affair.
The problem remains, that it dang near takes a nuclear disaster before the check n balance systems take effect.
The American people, until the Oil and housing crisis presented itself, were having a beautiful time at the grind of doing this the American way.
What has been forgotten, in the former times of plenty, is that if a farmer does not watch his fields often, he will either come back and see the crop gone or destroyed.
We must start, in order to become a better country, to care about integrity again or the next generation will just learn how to do this two step better and our path of correction shall be harder.
Apathy about it not being “your” particular case remains willfully blind to the fact that it is “OUR” system of Justice and Government, these guys are perverting.
Take a stand, please, for all our sakes and care about integrity?
Dann is a corrupt jackass. He has abused his power and that part of the story is not being mentioned yet. He will burn badly before this is all over. Good Riddance! The extra marital affair is nothing compared to his gross negligence and willful misconduct. This guy is a crook, make no mistake.
He’s innocent! There is no proof. How would you like to be accused with no proof. Not fun, I bet.

Yes, Anon @ 7:15, I picked a moniker and I stick with it. Oh, by the way, “moniker” means nickname.
to Dann is Innocent, Hey Marc quit posting on this blog.
I’m with Anon, until you give your full name and address/telephone number, you are just as anonymous as anyone else. Since I doubt anyone here is willing to do that, including you, your argument fails.
KS Trial Lawyer: Way to stick with that moniker/nickname. You are a real stand up guy.
To all of you who say he should have to resign and he is “corrupt”. Don’t just say he is corrupt say why you think what he did is so bad that he should have to resign. Everyone just takes the easy route out by using terms like corrupt, abuse of power, etc. If you really think he did something wrong thats fine however I am yet to hear one good reason why he should have to resign. If Bill Gates was having an affair right now would the Shareholders at Microsoft call for his resignation? No because having an affair does not hurt his ability to properly do his job. It is when we as Americans pretend we are this perfect country and no one who is not loyal to their wife can be in politics that these dumb things become big. In Europe they laugh at these kind of things. And now there is going to be that really patriotic American who says yea well Europe Sucks America is awesome. Newsflash Europe is doing very well right now and America is not. Perhaps it is because what we think is corrupt is someone lying to their wife. But what we seem to not care about is the fact that other politicans are not doing their jobs correctly, are taking us into wars we do not belong in and are letting big business do whatever the hell they want until we have a Credit Crisis that Berkshire Hataway’s Vice Chairman says “make Enron look like a tea party”. It is now time that Americans unite Republican Democrat Liberal Conservative we need to worry about the things that truly matter. Not what decisions our politicans are making in their personal lives but what decisions they are making for us. Because the truth is Marc Dann while may have made poor decisions in his persnal life has made quite good decisions as the Attorney General. It is time to Grow up America and stop with the We are Perfect mentality.

Resigned today.
Marc Dann resigned. See ya, thanks for stopping by.
He should SUE for reinstatement. No proof!
Wow, its still amazing to me that people turn everything into a republican vs Democrat issue. Nobody, and I mean nobody, holds Dems to a higher level than any other party. That assertion is laughable; simply something that is said by those that over-identify with his/her political party(i.e., incapable of independent thought and just go with what the party tells them).
who’s laughable and ludicrous now Leo

I think Mark Dann is corrupt and so is his wife.
